Chapter 5 Reading Newspaper - Trainee
After graduation in the age17, My first job was working at Wing Sang Cheung Tea Co. in Sheung Wan as a trainee. The major product sold in the company were Guang Xi Liu Bao Cha, Fu Zhou Jasmine Tea, Shan Tou Mi Lan Cha, Guang Zhou Peurh Tea and Fu Jian New White Tea. In 1967, one year after the great riot, the political consciousness was very sensitive. The people who supported the communist of China were given a name, "the left winger". Since most tealeaves are harvested in China, only the importers with good relations were allowed to export tealeaves from China.
The Chinese government also promoted propaganda. So every Wednesday, the manager level of every business must read a selected article from the newspaper, Tai Ko Pao(a Hong Kong local newspaper) to his staff. Then later in the afternoon, an officer from Tak Shun Hong(the representatives of China) will come and ask them about the content of the article. This was known as "the reading of newspaper". The union of the tea industry will also have schedule assemblies. There, all the employees of the industry will gather and sing songs that praise the communist of China. Every year in the day of independence, each tea company will place the national flag of China in the door front, and every industry will have a big celebration.
