Chapter 1 Introduction
In the South Western side of Hong Kong, there is a small but beautiful island, Cheung Chau. Due to its dumbbell shape, it is also call "the Dumbbell Island". In year 1951, I was born in the local hospital of Cheung Chau. At that time, the population was small and everybody was friendly to each other.
Cheung Chau has lots of natural sea bays. At the east, there is a natural beach. At the West, there is a natural harbour. Therefore, the Fishery industry became the main occupation of the resident. Even myself was graduated in Cheung Chau fisherman's elementary school. Due to the low standard of living, there were only a few entertainment, such as collecting sea shells on the beach, picking fruits on the hill side, playing marbles, or catch little fish or crab by our own clothing. Till today, these memory still flashes in my mind.
There were also assisting material from U.S. like pens, paper, and flour. Cheung Chau has 2 famous local products, the shrimp paste made from a very tiny shrimp, and sun dried preserved fish made from fishes just caught by fishermen.
